Phase 4 – Recognizing Types Part 2

The information presented earlier about type recognition all pertained to quadrant placement and not about detecting individual differences sought in the third and fourth choices. The third choice, working with people and things versus thoughts and ideas is difficult to discern because the thoughts and ideas are often posed as finding different ways or paths that make lives better for people or preserve things more efficiently. Persons with the people and things general orientation prefer to work in groups even when the group is segmented with different sections of one group performing different tasks but still together as a group. By the numbers, some 75% of all individuals have a preference for people and things. Some activities favor group work and knowledge that a person would not be working alone may be of assistance to getting a positive response in some instances. Conversely, people who prefer thoughts and ideas as a general orientation will want to work alone or in small groups and do their best work under such circumstances. They enjoy new ideas and making things work better even if some work flow is currently satisfactory. For them, solitary or very small team effort is what they want and need.

The fourth choice is about identifying those in the 25% of the population who when learning new information are immediately, subconsciously, trying to relate new data with information already learned. In communicating with such individuals, they will be found frequently interrupting to ask questions as they are learning something new about relationships between something they already know with the new data. They also have a strong tendency to complete sentences spoken by others whether or not they vocalize the sentence completion. They may express open surprise when some spoken sentences are completed other than as expected. The only gain seen in this particular type recognition is that we would know why some individuals seem to understand certain relationships quicker than expected rather than needing to sleep on it.

This last choice (4th) was asked primarily to be able to complete the MBTI type. A brief summary was included at the bottom of the Recognizing Types summary previously offered.
