Amiables Interacting with Others MBTI Types xxFJ
When we interact with another person, there are many variables that can impact on the meeting. This page assumes first that each person is in a non-play state of mind. If either is playing, the data presented below may lead to wrong results. If the meeting is scheduled, then we can take the time to be socially acceptable. Clean bodies including hair and fingernails and clothing appropriate for the activities of the day are a part of creating an atmosphere of fitting in socially with groups to be encountered for the day. The absence of body smells is preferred to any body odors or heavy perfumes. Speaking appropriately (enunciation, pronunciation, and correct word usage) and correct vocabulary level (I. e., no college level language to young children) is also part of being socially correct. Cultural considerations may exist as well. The considerations are all a part of the recognition of how we impact personally on others. The personal cost of changing our own behavior to be seen as more acceptable to others is acceptance of tension within ourselves. This tension lessens as we work more to reach out to others. The style adjustment actions mentioned below will also increase our own tension level. The hope is that in recognizing the tension, it will allow us to manage it.
Amiables with Analyticals – Analyticals see Amiables positively as being cooperative, careful, quiet, thoughtful, and willing and are seen negatively as softhearted, easy going, emotional, and too compliant with others. To work better with Analyticals, Amiables need to stress the gathering of
facts and data but with a time limit and they need to build confidence with with the Analytical by demonstrated technical competence. (Amiables see Analyticals positively as being cooperative, conservative, accurate, and patient and negatively as lacking in warmth and close relationships and
dependent on numbers.)
Amiables with Amiables – Amiables see other Amiables positively as being supportive, team oriented, friendly, helpful, kind, thoughtful, willing responsive, careful, and cooperative and are seen negatively as shy, retiring, and slow to act and in terms that may be either positive or negative including non-threatening, easy going, and softhearted depending upon their use. In order to work better with fellow Amiables as the boss, you will need to “play the role of Driver” and be hard-nosed, insistent, and directive. Otherwise, no one is likely to take the necessary initiative and the task will not be done satisfactorily.
Amiables with Expressives – Expressives see Amiables positively as being supportive, friendly, responsive, and helpful and negatively as slow, complying, too careful, and non-competitive. To work better with Expressives, bring them definite opinions backed up with third party endorsement, publicly recognize and praise their accomplishments, and stand your ground when challenged on rules or previously established procedure. (Amiables see Expressives positively as being warm, enthusiastic, stimulating and personable and negatively as outgoing, loud, dramatic, and impulsive.)
Amiables with Drivers – Drivers see Amiables positively as being helpful, supportive, team oriented, and careful and negatively as lacking initiative, needing too much detail, small thinking, and overly responsive. To work better with Drivers, Amiables need to be businesslike and tell the Driver how to help, what they want, stay on schedule, stick to the agenda and provide summaries, and then make the decision based upon options. (Amiables see Drivers positively as being efficient and disciplined and negatively as lacking feeling, impatient, secretive, tough minded and bottom line oriented.)
