In a normal non-play setting and dealing with someone not your boss or employee and not a friend or relative, you have chosen:
Tell or Telling versus Ask or Asking (Choice 1) and Controlled versus Animated/Emoting (Choice 2)
The intersection of the four elements-ask, tell, controlled, and animated-create four different personality groups. The group that you belong to is genetically driven and not a option on your part. Read the description immediately below and if it does not describe you than change at least one choice in 1. or 2. above. To aid you, and assuming that you were at least half right, the other two options that intersect with your original choices are also listed. At the bottom of the page are links that will take your back to change one or both of your original choices or to proceed to Choice 3. Please do this review as your choices are critical to what follows.
Telling – Controlled (Your Present Choices)
Persons exhibit a direct approach to living and their reaction time is swift, tending to reject inaction. They are task oriented and they are concerned about now. In problem solving, they offer logical options with probabilities seeking decisions and action. They organize that which is important to them. They are impressed by deeds and actions and not necessarily status or titles. They view dissent as a way to learn and seldom hold grudges.
Telling – Animated (Controlled replaced by Animated)
Persons often exhibit impulsive actions reacting rapidly to events while avoiding isolation. They are action oriented while seeking approval of others and with a minimum concern for routine. In problem solving, they offer testimony about solutions that have worked for others in their current position in the past and will often offer incentive plans to achieve their objectives. They must be around others. When they communicate one on one, they must see the reaction of others to what they say as it is being said so as not to miss any part of the non-verbal reaction to their words. When leading, they may seem to view suggestions or questions as criticism and personal attacks.
Asking – Controlled (Telling replaced by Asking)
Persons exhibit a cautious approach to living and their reaction time is slow, tending to reject involvement. They are logical fact oriented and concerned with the historical time frame. Their search for more includes more fact information, new sensual experiences, or a repetition of previous pleasurable experiences. Decisions are logical supporting principles and thinking and they offer evidence with service. When asked for solutions to a described problem on which they have information, they will often offer a summary of information (not a decision) based upon what they currently know. As more information develops or new insights occur, their “summary” will change.
The description may not describe you most of the time, if for most of the time you are with co-workers, friends, and / or relatives. Also, every word or action suggested need not fit as long as the option chosen is the best of those available. If you do not see yourself in any of the above descriptions, then make no changes and proceed to choice 3.
