In a normal non-play setting and dealing with someone not your boss or employee and not a friend or relative, you have chosen:

Ask or Asking versus Tell or Telling (Choice 1) and Animated/Emoting versus Controlled (Choice 2)

The intersection of the four elements – ask, tell, controlled, and animated-create four different personality groups. The group that you belong to is genetically driven and not a choice on your part. Read the description immediately below and if it does not describe you than change at least one choice in 1. or 2. above, and assuming that you were at least half right, the other two options that intersect with your original choices are also listed. At the bottom of the page are links that will either take your back to change one of your original choices or allow you to proceed to Choice 3. Please do this review as your choices here are critical to what follows.

Asking – Animated (Your Present Choices)

Persons exhibit supportive action in leading or aiding others and are unhurried in responding to events seeking to avoid conflict. They are people oriented and concerned with the current time frame. In problem solving, they offer guarantees and assurances that support feelings and relationships. They want both work and recreation organized. If a decision made by them is challenged, they will take it personally and will remember. They are very good receptors, often subconsciously, of non-verbal and verbal signals. The key word that describes this style is harmony.

Telling – Animated (Asking replaced by Telling) Described

Persons often exhibit impulsive actions reacting rapidly to events while avoiding isolation. They are action oriented while seeking approval of others and with a minimum concern for routine. In problem solving, they offer testimony about solutions that have worked for others in their current position in the past and will often offer incentive plans to achieve their objectives. They must be around others. When they communicate one on one, they must see the reaction of others to what they say as it is being said so as not to miss any part of the non-verbal reaction to their words. When leading, they may seem to view suggestions or questions as criticism and personal attacks.

Asking – Controlled (Animated replaced by Controlled) Described

Persons exhibit a cautious approach to living and their reaction time is slow, tending to reject involvement. They are logical fact oriented and concerned with the historical time frame. Their search for more includes more fact information, new sensual experiences, or repetition of previous pleasurable experiences. Decisions are logical supporting principles and thinking and they offer evidence with service. When asked for solutions to a described problem on which they have information, they will often offer a summary of information (not a decision) based upon what they currently know. As more information develops or new insights occur, their “summary” will change.

The description may not describe you most of the time, especially if for most of the time you are with co-workers, friends, and / or relatives. Also, every word or action suggested need not fit as long as the option chosen is the best of those available. If you do not see yourself in any of the above descriptions, then make no changes and proceed to choice 3.
