Analyticals Interacting with Other Styles

When we interact with another person, there are many variables that can impact on the meeting. This page assumes first that each person is in a non-play state of mind. If either is playing, the data presented below may lead to wrong results. If the meeting is scheduled, then we can take the time to be socially acceptable. Clean bodies including hair and fingernails and clothing appropriate for the activities of the day are a part of creating an atmosphere of fitting in socially with groups to be encountered for the day. The absence of body smells is preferred to any body odors or heavy perfumes. Speaking appropriately (enunciation, pronunciation, and correct word usage) and correct vocabulary level (I. e., no college level language to young children) is also part of being socially correct. Cultural considerations may exist as well. The considerations are all a part of the recognition of how we impact personally on others. The personal cost of changing our own behavior to be seen as more acceptable to others is acceptance of tension within ourselves. This tension lessens as we work more to reach out to others. The style adjustment actions mentioned below will also increase our own tension level. The hope is that in recognizing the tension, it will allow us to manage it.

Analyticals with Analyticals – Analyticals see other Analyticals positively as being thinking oriented, conservative, quiet, logical, thorough, reserved, cooperative, dependable, and accurate and negatively as critical, distant, stern, austere and as either positive or negative depending on its use as cool toward others and wanting more facts. To work better with fellow Analyticals, recognize the need for setting timetables for reaching decisions. Avoid reinforcing the other’s desire for more information.

Analyticals with Amiables – Amiables see Analyticals positively as being cooperative, conservative, accurate, and patient and negatively as lacking in warmth and close relationships and dependent on numbers. To work better with Amiables, Analyticals need to show interest in them as persons, use their skills as mediators to build relationships, and help Amiables to ask for bigger numbers and to upgrade their prospects. (Analyticals see Amiables positively as being cooperative, careful, quiet, thoughtful, and willing and are seen negatively as softhearted, easy going, emotional, and too compliant with others.)

Analyticals with Drivers – Drivers see Analyticals positively as being logical, accurate, dependable, and being a good source of data and are seen negatively as lacking in risk taking and decisiveness and of needing too much data. To work better with Drivers, Analyticals need to summarize facts with various outcomes then let the Driver choose, depend on self-discipline rather than reports and detailed instructions, and reward Drivers with money rather than titles or bigger offices. (Analyticals see Drivers positively as being efficient, logical, and task oriented and negatively as hasty, bossy, risk taking, decisive and competitive.)

Analyticals with Expressives – Expressives see Analyticals positively as being cooperative and dependable and negatively as critical, stuffy, impersonal, dependent on facts, and lacking in fun. To work better with Expressives, Analyticals need to spend some informal time (meals, breaks or after work) with them, recognize their need for incentives and contests where they can win, and they need to ask for their opinions without immediate (negative) reactions. (Analyticals see Expressives positively as being imaginative, stimulating, and thought provoking and negatively as loud, flashy, emotional, lacking in performance and follow through.)
